About this opening
MindGame Research Lab is an independent NGO and interdisciplinary research center based at the Faculty of Economics and Management of Nabeul (FSEGN). Dedicated to advancing research in behavioral science, our lab combines rigorous theoretical frameworks with empirical methods and practical decision-making applications. To strengthen our empirical research capacity, we are seeking a methodical, detail-oriented, and research-driven Head of Experimentation Hub to lead experimental design, participant operations, field deployment, and behavioral data collection.
Why Join Us?
In our lab, science is a shared journey built on community, knowledge-sharing, and growth:
- Scientific Family: Join a collaborative research environment where researchers and experimental teams work together, exchange ideas, learn from one another, and build meaningful academic and professional connections.
- Hands-On Experimental Research: Design and implement real behavioral experiments involving human participants across laboratory, field, and online environments.
- End-to-End Research Experience: Take ownership of the experimental process, from translating theoretical models into experimental protocols to participant recruitment, data collection, quality control, and research documentation.
- Advanced Experimental Tools: Gain practical experience with platforms such as oTree, z-Tree, Qualtrics, and statistical software while developing expertise in behavioral experimentation and quantitative research.
- International Research Exposure: Engage with behavioral scientists and experimental researchers through international collaborations, research networks, workshops, and joint scientific initiatives.
Position Overview
Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Head of Experimentation Hub serves as the methodological and operational lead for MindGame's experimental research activities. The position is responsible for designing and deploying behavioral experiments, coordinating participant operations, maintaining experimental quality, and ensuring that research procedures follow appropriate ethical and methodological standards.
The Head of Experimentation Hub will work closely with the Research Hub to translate theoretical models and hypotheses into experimental designs and with the Tech & Data Hub to develop digital experiments, computational interfaces, and reliable data-processing pipelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Experimental Design: Develop, implement, and oversee behavioral experiments across laboratory, field, and online environments, translating theoretical hypotheses into measurable experimental protocols.
- Protocol Development: Design experimental treatments, instructions, decision tasks, incentive structures, questionnaires, and measurement instruments while ensuring methodological consistency.
- Participant Operations: Coordinate participant recruitment, scheduling, communication, attendance, subject-pool management, and participant documentation.
- Experimental Platforms: Build and administer experiments using platforms such as oTree, z-Tree, Qualtrics, and other appropriate research tools.
- Field & Laboratory Deployment: Organize and supervise experimental sessions, ensuring that protocols are implemented consistently and that data collection procedures are properly documented.
- Ethics & Research Integrity: Support the preparation and implementation of ethical protocols, informed-consent procedures, participant safeguards, and other applicable research-ethics requirements.
- Data Quality & Integration: Monitor data quality during collection, identify inconsistencies or missing observations, and coordinate with the Tech & Data Hub to ensure reliable data processing and storage.
- Experimental Supervision: Supervise Research Assistants involved in participant recruitment, session management, data collection, and experimental implementation.
- Cross-Hub Collaboration: Work with the Research Hub to operationalize theoretical hypotheses and with the Tech & Data Hub to integrate experimental platforms, computational tools, and behavioral datasets.
- Scientific Coordination: Participate in bi-weekly Hub Lead meetings and contribute to the strategic coordination of MindGame's research portfolio.
Qualifications & Mindset
- Academic Background: Master's degree in Economics, Experimental Economics, Behavioral Economics, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Statistics, or another related field. PhD students and early-career researchers are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Research Experience: Demonstrated experience in experimental research, behavioral studies, survey research, laboratory or field research, or related academic projects. Experience organizing research sessions, workshops, or scientific events is highly valued.
- Experimental & Technical Skills: Practical knowledge of experimental platforms such as oTree, z-Tree, or Qualtrics. Familiarity with statistical software such as R, Stata, or Python is highly desirable.
- Methodological Skills: Strong understanding of experimental design, behavioral measurement, randomization, treatment design, data quality, and quantitative research methods.
- Organizational Skills: Strong ability to coordinate participants, research assistants, experimental sessions, schedules, materials, and field operations while maintaining accuracy and reliability.
- Research Communication: Ability to communicate clearly with participants, research assistants, researchers, and external collaborators and to explain experimental procedures in an accessible and consistent manner.
- MindGame-Specific Attributes: Strong interest in behavioral experimentation, game-theoretic experiments, strategic interaction, decision-making, trust, cooperation, bargaining, coalition formation, and other behavioral phenomena. Experience working with human subjects is a significant asset.
- Language Proficiency: Strong written and spoken English and Arabic are required. Proficiency in both languages will be assessed during the interview process.
