About this opening
MindGame Research Lab is an independent NGO and interdisciplinary research center based at the Faculty of Economics and Management of Nabeul (FSEGN). Dedicated to advancing research in behavioral science, our lab combines rigorous theoretical frameworks with empirical methods, computational modeling, and practical decision-making applications. As we expand our computational and data capabilities, we are seeking an innovative, analytical, and technically driven Head of Tech & Data Hub to lead our computational research, AI development, and data infrastructure.
Why Join Us?
In our lab, science is a shared journey built on community, knowledge-sharing, and growth:
- Scientific Family: Join a collaborative research environment where researchers, developers, and data specialists work together, exchange ideas, learn from one another, and build meaningful academic and professional connections.
- AI & Computational Research: Work at the intersection of behavioral science, artificial intelligence, and computational economics by developing intelligent agents, simulations, machine learning systems, and computational models.
- Technical Leadership: Take responsibility for the technical direction of a research hub, mentor young developers and research assistants, establish computational workflows, and contribute to the development of MindGame's research infrastructure.
- Advanced Technical Experience: Gain hands-on experience with Reinforcement Learning, Multi-Agent Systems, Natural Language Processing, Agent-Based Modeling, data pipelines, and research-oriented software development.
- International Research Exposure: Engage with researchers and technical collaborators through international research networks, joint projects, workshops, and interdisciplinary initiatives.
Position Overview
Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Head of Tech & Data Hub serves as MindGame's technical and computational lead. The position is responsible for translating theoretical and behavioral research into computational models, developing AI-based research tools, maintaining data infrastructure, and coordinating the technical activities of the Hub.
The Head of Tech & Data Hub will work closely with the Research Hub to translate theoretical models into computational frameworks and with the Experimentation Hub to support experimental platforms, data collection, and empirical analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Computational Modeling: Translate mathematical, game-theoretic, and behavioral models into computational algorithms, simulations, and reproducible research systems.
- AI & Agent Development: Design, implement, train, and evaluate Reinforcement Learning, Multi-Agent Systems, and intelligent agents for behavioral and strategic research, including MindGame's MindReader research program.
- Machine Learning & Data Science: Develop machine learning pipelines for behavioral data, including data preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, validation, and performance evaluation.
- NLP & Language Technologies: Develop and evaluate Natural Language Processing systems for research applications, including specialized models capable of processing Arabic and multilingual behavioral data.
- Research Infrastructure: Design and maintain reproducible computational environments, research repositories, data pipelines, experiment interfaces, and other technical infrastructure required by MindGame projects.
- Technical Supervision: Supervise computational Research Assistants and developers, provide technical guidance, review code, and establish good practices for documentation, version control, testing, and reproducibility.
- Cross-Hub Collaboration: Work with the Research Hub to operationalize theoretical models and with the Experimentation Hub to integrate computational tools, experimental platforms, and behavioral datasets.
- Technical Research Output: Contribute to computational research papers, technical reports, simulations, software prototypes, datasets, and other scientific outputs emerging from MindGame projects.
- Scientific Coordination: Participate in bi-weekly Hub Lead meetings and contribute to the strategic coordination of MindGame's research portfolio.
Qualifications & Mindset
- Academic Background: Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computational Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or another related quantitative field. PhD students and early-career researchers are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Research Experience: Demonstrated experience in computational research, machine learning, data science, software development, or related research projects. Experience demonstrated through academic projects, research work, open-source contributions, hackathons, or technical portfolios is highly valued.
- Technical Skills: Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow. Knowledge of Reinforcement Learning, Agent-Based Modeling, Multi-Agent Systems, NLP, and scientific computing is highly desirable.
- Data & Infrastructure Skills: Experience with data processing, version control, research databases, APIs, computational environments, and reproducible research workflows. Familiarity with cloud computing platforms such as AWS or GCP is an asset.
- Research Communication: Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to researchers from economics, behavioral science, experimentation, and other disciplines, and to translate scientific requirements into practical computational solutions.
- MindGame-Specific Attributes: Strong interest in connecting human cognition and behavior with AI architectures, strategic interaction, learning, and intelligent agents. Interest or experience in Arabic NLP and African behavioral research is considered a significant asset.
- Language Proficiency: Strong written and spoken English and Arabic are required. Proficiency in both languages will be assessed during the interview process.
